Grey Sylph

Technical Data

Accomidation: Unknown
Height (Battroid Mode): 19.1 meters
Length (Fighter Mode): 22.2 meters
Weight: empty weight 11,706 kilograms; standard mission takeoff weight 23,700 kilograms; maximum takeoff weight 35,242 kilograms
Speed (Fighter Mode): Cruise: Mach 1.65, Max: Mach 3.0

Ability Data

Fighter Mode: The Grey Sylph's standard mode. A sleak, aerodynamic form capable of flight at mach speeds.
Battroid Mode: The Grey Sylph's main combat mode. Not as fast as Fighter mode, but capable of making better use of terrain, and the only form that can use certain weapons.
Gerwalk Mode: An alternate form which gives a balance between speed and combat.
Weapon Hardpoints: Grey Sylphs seem to have 6 hardpoints capable of carrying various weapons into combat. The loadout is usually dictated by the mission, though pilots have some lee-way available to them about certain aspects. Like the Sylphid, the Grey Sylph's hardpoints are designed in a way to allow missiles to still fire when in Battroid mode, though bombs still cannot be used unless in Fighter or Gerwalk mode.

Weapon Data

20mm Vulcans: Standard aircraft vulcan cannons mounted on the fighter's "nose". Since the nose folds into the frame when transforming into Battroid mode, they are unusable. However the nose remains in place when in Gerwalk mode.
Dual Anti-Aircraft Laser Turret: The Grey Sylph mounts 2 laser cannons, just like the Super Sylph. Mounted on the head in Battroid mode, and on an underside turret in Fighter and Gerwalk mode.
55mm Gatling Gunpod: The Grey Sylph's main combat weapon. The Gatling Gunpod is mounted on the left side of the chassis when in Fighter mode, and is held in the Super Sylph's hands in Battroid and Gerwalk modes.
JAM Missiles: Each of the Grey Sylph's hardpoints are capable of carrying 3 of the JAM's special anti-air missiles, which are more powerful then the standard FAF ones.
Swarming Missiles: Each of the Grey Sylph's hardpoints are capable of carrying a pod of 15 "swarmer" missiles. While low-powered, the missiles are fast and are capable of hitting a target from multiple angles, effectively "swarming" the target.
Cluster Bombs: Each of the Grey Sylph's hardpoints are capable of carrying a single cluster bomb, which is capable of covering a large area with bomblets.
Anti-Radar Missiles: Each of the Grey Sylph's hardpoints are capable of carrying 3 missiles specifically designed to home in on radar and other tracking systems.
Super Missiles: Once, the Grey Sylph was seen carring one of the JAM's "super missiles", giant missiles capable of destroying everything within miles. However the missiles are also massive, much larger then the Grey Sylph, which causes signifigant performance loss. However, since the missile can be fired from many miles further then FAF units can engage the Grey Sylph, it had more then enough time to fire the missile before any threat could reach it.

Technical and Historical Notes

Not much is known about the Grey Sylph, and in fact most of the FAF don't even believe it exists. It first showed itself to 2Lt Rei Fukai when he was returning from a mission. Fuka's RIO thought the Grey Sylph was just another Super Sylph, but Yukikaze flagged it as an enemy and destroyed it. However it would appear yet again, attacking Rei's heavily damaged VFF-31MR/D Super Sylph "Yukikaze", destroying it.
