VFF-41 Mave "Yukikaze"

Technical Data

Accomidation: Two
Height (Battroid Mode): 16.9 meters
Length (Fighter Mode): 18.0 meters
Weight: standard takeoff weight 11,860 kilograms; maximum takeoff weight 34,220 kilograms
Speed (Fighter Mode): Cruise: Mach 1.75, Max: Mach 3.3

Ability Data

Fighter Mode: The Mave's standard mode. A sleak, aerodynamic form capable of flight at mach speeds.
Battroid Mode: The Mave's main combat mode. Not as fast as Fighter mode, but capable of making better use of terrain, and the only form that can use certain weapons.
Gerwalk Mode: An alternate form which gives a balance between speed and combat.
Weapon Hardpoints: Maves have 6 hardpoints capable of carrying various weapons into combat. Like the Sylphid, the Mave's hardpoints are designed in a way to allow missiles to still fire when in Battroid mode, though bombs still cannot be used unless in Fighter or Gerwalk mode.
TARPS: Short for Tactical Aerial Reconnaissance Pod System, TARPS is the core of the Mave's mission. Using a variety of optical and electronic surveillance systems, it is capable of collecting all kinds of information on the battlefield, and thus is indispensable to the SAF. The version of TARPS on the Mave seems much more advanced then the regular one, as Yukikaze is capable of fooling advanced computer systems with false information, and even produce life-like holograms capable of fooling JAM and humans alike.
JAM Signal Generator: One of the Mave's upgrades is a new coating which, in theory, produces JAM signal patterns designed to make the Mave appear to be a JAM. It's unsure if this ability ever actually worked, but Yukikaze uses it to warn Rei whenever it detects an undercover JAM nearby.
Flip Knight System: It's unsure who installed the Flip Knight onto the Mave, but it is a system which is designed to control Knight Remote Weapons. However, when attached to Yukikaze, the system is able to control any allied unit.
Yukikaze: A highly advanced, near-sentient AI. No one is sure where Yukikaze came from, but it has formed a bond with pilot Rei Fukai. Yukikaze is capable of controlling the Mave on it's own, alternating control with Rei as necessary. Though not apparently capable of speach, it communicates with Rei through text messages.

Weapon Data

30mm Vulcans: Heavy vulcan cannons mounted on the fighter's "nose". Since the nose folds into the frame when transforming into Battroid mode, they are unusable. However the nose remains in place when in Gerwalk mode.
High-Power Laser Turret: Instead of the quad anti-aircraft laser turret found on the VFX-00 Mave, the VFF-41 Mave mounts a single high-power laser cannon, mounted on the head in Battroid mode, and on an underside turret in Fighter and Gerwalk mode. Signifigantly more powerful then the small cannons on other units, it produces a thin beam that can be swept around the area in front of the Mave, heavily damaging anything that gets hit.
55mm Triple Gatling Gunpod: The Mave's main combat weapon. Similar to the standard Gatling Gunpod, however it has 3 barrels for a faster rate of fire. Because of the faster rate, the gunpod uses caseless ammunition so that it can fit more rounds in the same amount of space. The Gunpod is mounted on the left side of the chassis when in Fighter mode, and is held in the Mave's hands in Battroid and Gerwalk modes.
Anti-Air Missiles: Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying 3 anti-air missiles, which are capable of homing on either laser or infra-red.
Swarming Missiles: Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying a pod of 15 "swarmer" missiles. While low-powered, the missiles are fast and are capable of hitting a target from multiple angles, effectively "swarming" the target.
Cluster Bombs: Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying a single cluster bomb, which is capable of covering a large area with bomblets.
Fuel-Air Explosive: Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying a single fuel-air explosive. FAEs are highly devistating weapons, and capable of covering a wide area
Anti-Radar Missiles: Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying 3 missiles specifically designed to home in on radar and other tracking systems.
Reaction Missiles: During the final battle in the series, FAF high command authorized the use of reaction missiles against the JAM fleet preventing them from returning through the portal. Reaction missiles are the most devestating weapon in the FAF's arsenal, even stronger then previous nuclear missiles, without any of the dangerous radiation. Each of the Mave's hardpoints are capable of carrying a single Reaction Missile.

Technical and Historical Notes

The VFF-41 Mave is a customized VFX-00 Mave prototype, equipped with the Yukikaze AI system and a 2 seat cockpit. The only VFF-41 in existence is currently assigned to 2Lt Rei Fukai of the SAF.

Some of the customizations made to the VFF-41 include a TARPS system, and experimental systems such as JAM camouflage and the remote drone control system "Flip Knight". Also, since the VFF-41 is piloted, it was authorized to equip more weapons then the VFX-00 was.
