Totally not a Wild Arms game at all
No more than a few generations ago, the world of Eltria was a world that was quickly turning harsh and inhabitable to many of its native species forcing a large majority of its human population to set out to space. However, through the efforts of the Gears created by a Prof. Grantz Florian and the fruits of his research, a path to repairing the planet's ecology was found. Together with the Guardian Materials, the sister Gears Amitie and Kyrie Florian gathered what little help and resources left in Eltria to found the Eltrian Ring Foundation, an organization set on the restoration and support of human civilization on the planet as well as the continuous repair and protection of the ecology.
Now, together with new immigrants as well those returned to their home planet, a new civilization is just taking shape. Vast new lands are in need of restoration, new governing authorities are out to claim territories and trade in the new frontiers are all up for grabs. At the forefront of all this are the Drifters; individuals or groups of people who brave the land with their own agenda. They can simply be the adventurous, looking for thrills where the wind takes them or hunters-for-hire and traders out looking to make it big by taking risks. Whichever way, they are part of what will shape the future of Eltria, those who brave the unknown where many organizations are unable to divert resources to.
Or, at least that's what written on the ERF's Hunter license exam pamphlet.
